What is Cagrilintide?
Cagrilintide is a long-acting amylin analogue developed by Novo Nordisk. Amylin is a peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic beta cells that plays an important role in satiety signaling, gastric emptying regulation, and postprandial blood glucose control. Cagrilintide is being studied both as a monotherapy and in combination with semaglutide (as 'CagriSema') for weight management.

Cagrilintide activates amylin receptors in the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius — brain regions that process satiety signals. This produces prolonged feelings of fullness, reduces food intake, and slows gastric emptying. These effects are complementary to GLP-1 receptor activation, acting through different receptor systems.
